The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation is excited to support Utopia Theatre in delivering their Inclusive Ageing African Drumming and Music Workshop Series.
Founded in 2012, Utopia Theatre is a Black-led national portfolio organisation that champions African theatre traditions across the UK. Their work spans productions, artist development, youth engagement, and creative programmes for older people, inspiring cross-cultural understanding and celebrating African heritage.
This new project will run over four weeks, offering older people in Sheffield, including those experiencing isolation, displacement, or mental health challenges, the chance to explore African drumming, rhythm, and chant. Led by a professional musician from the creative team of *Crown of Blood*, participants will learn to play traditional instruments, experience live music, and connect music with memory, identity, and storytelling.
The workshops are part of a wider creative programme that fosters connection, creativity, and wellbeing for Sheffield’s diverse communities.
At The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation, we believe in music’s ability to unite and inspire and Utopia Theatre’s work embodies that spirit. We look forward to seeing the joy and energy these sessions will bring.
