We are thrilled to announce that Southey Green Primary School in Sheffield is the latest beneficiary of a grant from the Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation. This inspiring school, nestled in the heart of Southey Green, provides a broad and inclusive education to over 700 children, many of whom face significant challenges in their everyday lives.
At Southey Green, music is more than just a subject,it is a powerful tool for enrichment, self-expression, and community building. Led by their passionate Music Lead, Sam Wright, the school is dedicated to ensuring every child, regardless of background, has access to high-quality music education. With 48% of pupils eligible for pupil premium and 38% from ethnic minority backgrounds, the need for inclusive and enriching opportunities is greater than ever.
Funding for specialist music provision is a challenge for many primary schools, and Southey Green is no exception. Thanks to a grant from the Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation, the school can now offer even more to its pupils. The grant will be used in two key ways:
-Specialist Instrument Lessons: Southey Green will partner with Lowe Academy to deliver ukulele lessons to Year 5 pupils. This hands-on experience will allow children to learn a new instrument, develop teamwork skills, and experience the unique joy that comes from making music together.
- New Musical Resources: The remaining funds will be invested in purchasing additional musical instruments and resources, ensuring that music continues to flourish throughout the school.
At Southey Green, the belief is simple: every child deserves the chance to discover their musical potential. With the support of the Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation, the school can continue to break down barriers and open up new worlds of possibility for its pupils.
We are proud to support Southey Green Primary School as they nurture the next generation of musicians and music lovers in Sheffield. Together, we are proving that the power of music can truly change lives.
Thank you to everyone involved for helping us keep Sarah’s legacy alive—one note at a time.
