Large Grant’s Re-Opening soon

We are excited to announce that we have reopened our Large Grants programme. The Large Grants, up to £2,000, are open to specific projects that support people's lives through the power of music in Sheffield. You can apply here!

The applications for our first round opened on 14th August and closed on 14th November.

We were really impressed with the number and quality of applications submitted in our first large grants this year. We have awarded two grants to two very different organisations supporting people in Sheffield through the music in very different ways.

We are really happy to be able to support a variety of organisations which have a positive impact on various members of the local community through music.

The grants for the first round were awarded to The Children's Hospital Charity and Mondo Radio.

The Children's Hospital Charity

The Children's Hospital Charity helps to change children’s lives every day by supporting pioneering ground-breaking medical treatment & creating a comfortable & engaging environment at Sheffield Children’s Hospital. The Children's Hospital Charity fund enhancements which are over and above the NHS provision.

Their award will be used to help fund the NeoNatal Music Therapy Project. The Neonatal Surgical Unit cares for babies that require major surgery shortly after or within a few weeks of birth.

Babies on this ward are very poorly and it is a time of particular stress and worry for parents. The project will introduce a tailored programme of harmonic and melodic music therapy to provide a ‘blanket of sound’ across the ward.

Feedback from first session

The programme started last week and has gotten off to a good start! For the first session, there were only three babies on the ward and one parent on NSU. The staff however were really happy to receive us and we had some lovely feedback. One baby was receiving treatment and the music Concerteenies played which helped soothe baby and staff during this. The family member present in NSU remarked that they played lots of Indian music at home so the musicians played a traditional Indian folk tune. They used a variety of instruments including cello, guitar, a whistle and other more unusual healing sound instruments. We had two hours and with that time also visited families and children in ICU to make the most of their visit. Here we met with four young people and their families.

NSU - 'Amazing performance , really helped tNeonatal Music Therapy funded by The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundationo brighten the day for myself and my baby. Very talented. Thank you so much!'

ICU - 'Absolutely amazing performance so soothing for my daughter and me too! This makes our stay so much more enjoyable. Fantastic, thank you so much. x'

'Brought a smile to our daughters face. Emilia was delighted to be sung to by the Concerteenies 🙂'.

'My son totally loved this. It really perked him up. It is so hard to find ways to entertain him in hospital. He has been in and out all year, this hospital stay is currently just over three weeks You can read the full report here: Neonatal Music Therapy funded by The Sarah Nulty Power of Music Foundation

Mondo Radio

Mondo Radio is a volunteer-led community radio station and workshop/event space based in Sheffield. It is a grassroots organisation that aims to address the underrepresentation of marginalised individuals and communities in the local music industry.

Their grant will help support PAC-MONDO, which is an exciting project running in collaboration with the European Architecture Students Assembly (EASA). The project will create a pop up mobile, waterproof structure to house Mondo Radio activities.

This will allow Mondo to expand its activities across the community, benefitting harder to reach groups in their own neighbourhoods and showcasing the talents of their DJs and musicians to a wider audience.

The large grants are limited to 2 per round and we will not be able to accept all applications. We offer small grants of up to £500 on a regular basis and you can find the application form for these grants here, please take some time to consider which grant is most appropriate before applying.

We look forward to seeing your applications!
